What can I donate?
Your donated vehicle can be a car, truck, van, motorcycle, RV or boat with trailer. Please be aware that we do not automatically accept every vehicle pledged for donation. When we process a vehicle donation there are costs involved and the donated vehicle must have a sufficient value above our cost to process the donation. Vehicles with values below our cost to process the donation are declined. All that is required to find out if your vehicle can be accepted for donation is a quick call to our toll-free number (800) 600-4143. When you call we will need the vehicle pickup location, mileage, make, model, and condition of the vehicle. We do accept non-running vehicles in many cases. Return to top. How is the tax deduction amount determined?
The amount of the tax deduction is based on the sale price of your vehicle. Vehicles that sell for over $500 entitle you to a deduction equal to the sale price. If your vehicle sells below $500 you may take the greater amount of either the sale price, or the fair market value of the vehicle (up to a maximum of $500). This means that in most cases, your minimum tax deduction amount will be $500. To assist you in determining the fair market value for your vehicle we will provide you with the Kelley Blue Book estimate. After we sell your vehicle, you will receive a charitable donation receipt from KCTS, satisfying the requirement of the IRS. You should consult your tax professional if you have further questions. (Please be aware that to qualify for a tax deduction, you must not receive, in exchange, any goods and/or services from the 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization receiving your donation.)
