The Stewpot logo

Since 1975, The Stewpot has been an urban pioneer, responding to the emerging needs of at-risk individuals and people experiencing homelessness while collaborating with others to create appropriate, life-saving responses. Its mission is to offer a safe haven for homeless and at-risk individuals of Dallas, providing resources for basic survival needs as well as opportunities to start a new life.

From its origins as a soup kitchen, The Stewpot has over the years developed programs to support medical and dental needs, counseling and case management, and therapeutic and vocational activities. Through its unique identification documentation project, it helps individuals overcome barriers that those without ID’s face. More than a resource center, it offers year-round educational and recreational programs for low-income children, English as a second language, and family stabilization programs. The Stewpot recognizes that effective change involves whole-person programs and seeks to provide strategic direction, as well as resources, for a caring community. In 2013, The Stewpot helped birth Encore Park, a new nonprofit that includes a community garden and amphitheater at 508 Park, across from The Stewpot. Additional expansion is planned to house partner agencies and programs.
